Melbourne Street Carnaval

Experience Traditional Carnaval street music from Colombia, Recife and Rio de Janeiro, With La Descarga, Maracatu and Agobloco.

La Descarga: percussion, gaitas, voices and dance was born in 2009 and is a tribute to music from heart and soul, mixture of Afro-Colombia with an Australian touch.

Maracatu Estrela do Mar is a Melbourne-based Afro-Brazilian percussion group that plays Maracatu de Baque Virado and other rhythms from the northeast of Brazil.

And Agobloco is a Carnaval big band, big carnaval marching band featuring brass, winds, vocals, percussion and of course the irrepressible Trio Agogo. The supa-group performs break-neck speed Brazilian carnaval marches, known as marchinhas.

The three bands will be performing a carnaval roving performance recreating the street carnaval of South America in St Kilda! Bringing people together to dance, sing and celebrate.
